WoW: Senior Airman Sherilyn Abreu

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- The Weasel of the Week series asks Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, heroes, experts, and all-around great Airmen to share their likes, dislikes, Air Force spirit and personalities. We sat down with Senior Airman Sherylin Abreu, 20th Fighter Wing Mission Support Group Chief Emersom Williams Dining Facility storeroom manager, to get to know her. Abreu is responsible for ordering, receiving, securing and Inventory of all subsistence for 73,000 Airmen annually.

 

 

Please explain your career field and job. 

My career field is services. The services career field has three different sections which would be food, fitness, and readiness. My job in the food section is storeroom. This involves ordering and taking accountability for the food that is prepared in the dining facility.

 

How do you affect the wing’s mission capabilities?

 The way I affect the wing’s mission capabilities would be providing the Airmen in the dorms with meals so their day to day tasks can be completed.

 

What inspires you to strive and excel at your job?

What inspires me to strive and excel in my job would be the smiles on a costumers face when they are satisfied with their meal and go on to have a great day.

 

What advice do you have for people coming into your career field?

The advice I would give people coming into my career field would be to come in with an open mind and take pride in what you do.

 

What is your proudest moment since you arrived here?

My proudest moment since I have arrived to Shaw would have to be the day I felt that I could take pride in my job.

 

How do you define success and how does this definition of success help you succeed in your career field?

My definition of success would be making a difference even in the smallest way in someone’s day or life. This definition helps me succeed in my career because I want to be able to help others and if you can make someone smile you can turn their whole day around.

 

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years I would hope to see myself still being in the Air Force and completely my bachelor’s degree.

 

What is one thing you wish people knew about your job?

One thing I wish people knew about my job would be that it is not as easy as it may seem.

What impact have you made in your career field and at this base?

The impact I have made in my career field and on this base is trying to maintain a positive attitude whether it be to customers or the people I work with.

Also training newcomers in my career field to help them learn their job and be proud of it.
