The last strike: A-10 Thunderbolt II preserved in Shaw’s Air Park

The 55th Fighter Squadron tail flash and the infamous yellow thunderbolt are displayed on the A-10 Thunderbolt II in Shaw’s Air Park, Feb. 25, 2014, Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. The A-10 was assigned to the 55th Fighter Squadron here at Shaw from 1994 to 1996. The Department of Defense has proposed eliminating the aircraft from the Air Force arsenal due to budget cuts. Regardless of the outcome, Team Shaw is proud to display the aircraft for all to see and the A-10 will always have a home at Shaw. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Kenny Holston/Released)
