8/9/2012 - SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Shaw Air Force Base, in conjunction with the city and county of Sumter, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control and Air Combat Command, invites the public to attend and participate in a Restoration Advisory Board meeting set for 6:30 p.m., Aug. 20, at the New Beginnings banquet facility, 1335 S.C. highway 441.

Shaw has been conducting an ongoing series of environmental activities under the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act, a federal law enacted in 1980 to require the investigation and cleanup of legacy sites throughout the country. These initiatives are also accomplished within the guidelines of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976.

The meeting presents a forum for open discussion of the environmental cleanup activities being conducted by the base. Anyone interested in the restoration activities at the base is welcome.

The Air Force is totally committed to a clean and safe environment. For further information, please contact the 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office, (803) 895-2019.
