8/9/2012 - SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- A family housing privatization ribbon cutting is scheduled here Aug. 10 at 10 a.m.

Col. Lance A. Kildron, 20th Fighter Wing vice commander will preside over the ceremony with leadership from Forest City Military Communities.

A junior enlisted family will move into 7560 Orchid Drive on Shaw AFB after assisting cutting the ribbon to their new residence.

The old housing, built in the 1950's, 60's and 70's, is being replaced in phases. The project plans to bring 630 new units of contemporary-style residences to Shaw. The new homes are rank-based three and four bedroom homes with two-car garages.

Shaw officially turned over privatized housing management to FCMC on Sept. 30, 2011.
Housing privatization shifts the operations and maintenance responsibility of family housing to the private sector whose expertise is to build and manage housing, allowing Airmen and Soldiers to focus on the military mission.

FCMC has leased 306 acres of land from the Air Force as part of a 50-year agreement.
