CDC prepares children for kindergarten
The program, taught by specialized staff members, is designed to help 4-year-olds at a complex stage of development, specifically to prepare them for kindergarten, said Julie Denton, 20th FSS CDC assistant director.
During the school year and summer school programs, children learn through play, structured lessons and social interactions. Improving these skills lays the groundwork for further schooling.
At the end of the school year, they can identify numbers, letters and their name, said Yassah Kollie, 20th FSS child and youth program lead. They will take every little step they need for kindergarten.
Students also learn stress management techniques as well as how to recall past experiences and build relationships.
The class is free for families with qualifying incomes.
