SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. --   Ninth Air Force leadership hosted theĀ a Civic Leader Forum here Sept. 29-Oct. 1.

The objectives of the forum were to educate civic leaders from communities near Ninth Air Force wings, provide a conduit for them to network with Air Force leadership and each other, and to encourage these civic leaders to continue supporting Airmen and their bases.

Maj. Gen. H.D. Polumbo Jr., Ninth Air Force commander, led the discussions and the forum.

"I want you all to understand how your Air Force is doing," Polumbo told attendees. "I want you to understand how your Airmen are doing, how the families of your Airmen are doing, and how the mission gets done every day."

In addition to approximately 20 civic leaders, attendees included Ninth Air Force leadership and wing commanders from several Ninth AF installations, including Shaw, Seymour Johnson AFB, N.C., Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va., Moody AFB, Ga., Tyndall AFB, Fla., and Robbins AFB, Ga.

"The forum helps foster a strong partnership between community leaders and Ninth Air Force headquarters and wings," Polumbo said.

From this partnership, Ninth Air Force leadership provides a setting for local community leaders to have their voices heard, said Col. Scott Caine, Ninth Air Force vice commander. It also shows how committed communities are to supporting Airmen and their families.

"Civic leaders from across the nation are concerned with our Airmen, their lives, and our Air Force," Caine said. "They want to do everything they can to help our Airmen and make sure they're prepared to carry out our mission."

"Airmen should know that their senior leaders are working diligently to ensure the relationship between the community and the Air Force is strong," the colonel added.
