SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C, --   Family, friends and fellow Airmen gathered at the Carolina Skies Club and Conference Center to celebrate the career and retirement of Bruce Pauly, 20th Logistics Readiness Squadron passenger travel chief, here, Sept 3.

Pauly began serving in the Air Force in 1970, retiring as a master sergeant after 24 years. He then worked as a Department of Defense employee for 15 years.

"I enjoyed my time in the military," said Pauly. "I pursued my education getting my bachelor's after retiring at Shaw the first time. Then I got the opportunity to work at Shaw again, so decided to come back but this time as a civilian."

During his time in the military and while working as a DoD employee, Pauly has made a lasting impression on the members of Shaw.

"I've worked with Mr. Pauly for a little over two years and I've learned so much from him," said Senior Airman Josiah Mcdonald, 20th LRS traffic management apprentice. "He brings a lot to the table since he's been in for 39 years."

Not only has he been a mentor to Team Shaw members, but his name has been known across the world.

"Mr. Pauly was a great mentor to me and the other Airmen," said Master Sgt. Randy Dechant, 20th LRS deployment distribution superintendent. "We've all learned so much from him. But I've met a legend. Prior to moving to Shaw, the only person's name I'd heard was Mr. Bruce Pauly's from all the way around the world."

Pauly is renowned for his job knowledge, patience and abundant collection of awards.

"It's been a blast working with him," said Dechant. The office already feels empty without him. They've moved all his awards and belongings out, everyone will definitely miss working with him."

Though the LRS team and others will miss working with Pauly, he plans to spend more time with his family and spend time traveling.

"Retirement isn't for everyone," Pauly said. "You have to make your own decision. I decided it was my time to retire, I want to spend more time with my family, being a better father and a better grandpa."
