CAF Objectives

· To have an information and referral system
· To assess behavioral risk factors for 20th Fighter Wing military members and their families
· To deliver prevention services targeted to a wide range of individuals and groups within Air Force communities including: active duty, guard, and reserve members and their families, civilian employees, DOD employees, retirees and their families
· To promote collaborative marketing of CAF educational and prevention services

Scope of Responsibility

Coordination:
Offer seamless delivery system that provides services and promotes knowledge of available programs to enhance personal and family quality of life.

Education:
Provide information and prevention programs based on expressed community needs.

Assessment:
Assess community needs through surveys and evaluations. Identify unmet needs and use a team approach to find and implement solutions.

Marketing:
Maximize the use of media and technological information systems to promote prevention programs. Implement and maintain a community calendar of events listing workshops offered by member agencies.

Crisis Intervention:
Interface with other local community agencies to provide optimal care for the Shaw AFB community including counseling, education, and emergency intervention.

Health Promotions

Health Promotions is a member of the Shaw Prevention Team and partners with Family Support, Family Advocacy, Family Member's Program Flight, the Chaplain, and Mental Health in providing programs to meet the needs of our Shaw AFB community.

Health Promotions is located in Building 901. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • Find educational resources
  • Provide guidance on the Interstate Compact

Sexual Assault Response Program

Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate

The advocate provides 24-hour availability and services to adult victims of domestic violence. Offers restricted and unrestricted reports.

The DAVA office is located in building 1048.

ADAPT

The Alcohol and Drug Prevention and Treatment program is for Active Duty service members and provides services to include:
  • Promoting healthy lifestyles
  • Maintaining Air Force standards
  • Encourages responsible behavior
  • Minimizes negative consequences to the individual/family/Air Force
ADAPT does not treat family members, retirees or contractors. General Schedule and non-appropriated funds employees may be seen for an initial ADAPT evaluation if they screen positive for drugs, or have an on-base or on-duty substance-related misconduct or incident.

Mental Health

The Mental Health Clinic, Building 1048, provides outpatient psychotherapeutic services for groups and individuals, marital therapy, parenting skills, stress management and substance abuse counseling.

The Shaw family advocacy office offers programs such as:

American Red Cross Shaw office

The mission of the Red Cross to the Armed Forces is to provide humanitarian support to service members, veterans and their families around the clock, around the globe, under the same trusted symbol.

Military Family Life Consultants

Military family life consultants provide short-term, situational, problem solving counseling.
