SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. --
The 20th Logistics Readiness Squadron's Traffic Management Office Personal Property Section is getting ready to enter its busiest time of the year, with service members changing permanent duty stations while their children leave school for the summer.
The peak season starts at the end of April and will continue until early September. The number of service members in- and out-processing is substantially greater during the peak season than compared to normal operations. In the winter season the personal property section processes around 100 - 200 movers a month, while in the summer they can process more than 600.
The 20th LRS TMO Personal Property Counselors recommend members schedule their moves three to four weeks in advance in order to give the booking office (Joint Personal Property Shipping Office for the Northeast region, or JPPSO-Northeast) the flexibility to find an available contractor for each member on or around the member's requested dates.
Once members have their orders they need to visit www.move.mil
and register for a Defense Personal Property System account in order to complete their self-counseling. After finishing their self-counseling and the online portion of the paperwork, members with orders must contact the TMO office.
Members can either call to arrange an appointment or simply walk-in. The self-counseling that was completed online is forwarded to the member's local TMO office and a TMO personal property counselor assists with the completion on the final steps before sending it to JPPSO-Northeast. If members are having any difficulties completing the self-counseling, they have the option to complete it in the TMO personal property office at one of our DPS terminals with the help of a personal property counselor.
