SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Team Shaw members partake in Earth Day events in 2007 and 2016. In 1970, after seeing the aftermath of a massive oil spill in California, then U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson proposed Earth Day, an annual observance that grows awareness for the environment.

This year the 20th Force Support Squadron Wateree Recreation Area is hosting the 2017 “Teach a Child to Garden” event on Earth Day, April 22, to teach military children about gardening and edible plants.
