On May 5, Shaw became one of the first Air Combat Command bases to update its public Web site May 5 to the new Air Force Public Web Program mandated by AFI 35-101, Public Affairs Policies and Procedures.

The new Web site, located at the address of the old Web site at www.shaw.af.mil, emulates the format and look of Air Force Link located at www.af.mil. The format is designed to increase ease of navigation and all the Air Force Web sites will be centralized around the same design. Content may vary, depending on the base.

The focus of the site is to increase the ability of the general public to access Shaw information, while making the site easier to navigate, said Staff Sgt. Jennifer Young, 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Administration NCO in charge.

While the site is designed to be user friendly, it is also easier to manage. All site content is now updated by the 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs office, using the new Air Force Public Information Management System. Because the system handles the technical aspects of posting information, public affairs members can just input the information into the system to update the Web site.

“The new system is very systematic. No one will have to learn how to navigate each base’s individual Web site,” said Master Sgt. Julie Briggs, 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs superintendent.

There are some new features offered by the site, such as downloadable photos, art, a question and answer section and public news releases.
