Shaw Air Force Base is a proud community partner to Sumter, South Carolina and its surrounding communities.  Conveniently located approximately 40 miles east of the state capital Columbia, Shaw AFB and Sumter are centrally located between the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The year-round moderate climate makes outdoor actives such as golf, tennis, hiking, biking, fishing and visiting the nationally-renowned Swan Lake Iris Gardens, which is home to eight species of swans and a beautiful collection of Japanese Iris, a must.
