Emergency services are available 24 hours/7 days a week.
Ambulance Services Shaw AFB has no emergency services. For on-base emergencies call 911 for an ambulance. The ambulance service transports patients directly to the Emergency Department at Tuomey Medical Center Emergency Room.
Off-base military beneficiaries residing in Sumter County should call 911.
For emergencies occurring in the civilian community, the Sumter County EMS Services will only transport patients to the Tuomey Regional Medical Center emergency room. The hospital and physician's bills for active duty members and their dependents should be brought to the TRICARE Service Center as soon as you receive it. Make sure you speak with your PCM prior to (preferably), or within 24 hours, if you go to an Emergency Room.
Patient Education Tips: An emergency is defined as an acute illness or injury that may pose a threat to life, limb or eyesight; results in unreasonable pain and suffering; or requires immediate care or attention to ensure the best possible recovery. Patients with non-urgent problems may be referred to the Family Practice clinic or Pediatric Clinic for evaluation and treatment.
Patients are encouraged to use the Taking Care Of Yourself book, available through the Health and Wellness Center. This book directs actions for non-emergency medical issues; information is also available at www.human-military.com.
