Bored? Need a break from the dorms? Or maybe just looking to socialize and relax? The McElveen Resource Center (MRC) recently opened a new game room in February.

The game room features six Xbox consoles and 10 gaming chairs designed to enhance the gaming experience, and is free to anyone with a military ID.

The game room is an extension of a service the MRC already offered, explained Cecilia HemLee, 20th Force Support Squadron facility manager for the MRC. There is a children's room with a Wii and a Playstation, but the new game room allows patrons to play games that may not be age appropriate for everyone.

In addition to the game room, the MRC will now offer video games for patrons to check out and take home with them. Individuals can check out up to seven games at a time for seven days before they need to be returned.

"Right now we offer about 120 different games," HemLee added. "It includes games for the Wii, Playstation and Xbox, however the bulk of it is for the Xbox. For some of the more popular games, we offer one or two different copies."

As well as offering games, people can check out in-house controllers and headsets. Additionally, the new gaming room also features Wi-Fi capabilities allowing gamers to play online with friends.

The room is setup for competitions, said Trevelyan Owen, 20th Force Support Squadron library technician. Unlike playing video games in the dorms, Airmen can come in and play each other online while being in the same room.

The game room is open Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and is closed Sundays and holidays. For more information call 803-895-4518.
