One of Shaw's finest was recently awarded the Air Force level, 2007 3rd Annual DoD David O. Cooke Excellence in Public Administration Award.

Jon Wright, 20th Force Support Squadron guidance counselor, was presented the award by Lt. Col. Jimmie Sullivan, 20th FSS commander, recently at a commander's call.

According to the citiation, this award recognizes non-managerial career employees with three to ten years of civilian federal career service who demonstrate; great leadership potential as a future federal executive, extraordinary commitment to public service. The employee must also emulate Mr. Cooke's dedication to service, while helping to promote and affect cooperation and improvement in the department.

"Mr. Wright's ability to create, organize and manage new programs is unprecedented," said Col. James Post, 20th Fighter Wing commander.

Mr. Wright accomplished many feats at Shaw and he specifically feels his completion of Squadron Officer School made his award nomination package stand out. Only 100 civilians were selected in 2007, Air Force-wide for this course.

"This (SOS) is a significant achievement in the career of an Air Force civilian," Mr. Wright said.

"It is a tremendous honor knowing that senior leadership has recognized my accomplishments and leadership potential as a future federal executive," he said.

"Mr. Wright is the hardest working education counselor that I have had in my 39 years of working in the Air Force Education career field," said Samuel Dairyko, 20th FSS Education and Training Division flight chief.

"This award means that the hard work and commitment from the entire education services team is paying off and we are delivering an improved service to our Airmen that we can be proud of," Mr. Wright said.
