I have received many questions regarding the proper wear of the physical training uniform. I have also noticed and corrected many Airmen wearing the PT uniform improperly. We all have access to the updated AFI 36-2903. However, I will gladly highlight a few points:

1) Short and long-sleeve tee shirts are supposed to be tucked into shorts or running pants. The sleeves should not be pushed up, cut up or removed.

2) Short and full-length solid black or dark blue spandex is acceptable to wear under the running shorts.

3) Solid gray or white long-sleeve undershirts may be worn during cold-weather conditions.

4) All personal grooming standards apply while participating in physical fitness activities (long female hair will be secured but may have loose ends).

5) Be sure to apply all proper military customs and courtesies honoring the flag during reveille and retreat.

6) Headphones and earphones are authorized while in the fitness center or on designated running areas unless prohibited by the installation commander.

Simply put, the PT uniform is a uniform. It is everyone's responsibility to ensure the proper wear and to professionally and respectfully correct anyone not adhering to the standards. Please use the proper chain of command if you still have questions.
