The Team Shaw Rising Four hosted the second-annual Team Shaw Fall Family Picnic at the sports complex here, Nov. 12.

The picnic was hosted to bring Team Shaw together and boost the morale of Airmen and Soldiers who will be separated from family during the holiday season.

“It’s a great opportunity for (the families) to come and see what they’re a part of,” said Senior Airman Jeannette Hilliard, 28th Operational Weather Squadron weather forecaster. “It’s about being a community and getting a chance to remember the good that comes with the sacrifices we make.”

The picnic featured free food and drinks including hamburgers, hot dogs and funnel cake.

During the event, families and individuals participated in a variety of activities including face painting, sumo wrestling and a corn-eating contest.

“Family is everything,” said Staff Sgt. Endro Accettola, 169th Civil Engineer Squadron electrical system craftsman. “I really appreciate that the military community does stuff like this. It really speaks a lot about how much they care not just about the active-duty members but also the family members.”

As the weather gets colder and the holiday season approaches, the picnic gave Team Shaw the opportunity to celebrate together and to remind individuals that even if they don’t go home, they aren’t without family.
