The 20th Maintenance Group weapons standardization flight hosted a quarterly load crew competition, Oct. 4.

The competition tested the munitions loading speed and skills of Airmen assigned to the 20th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.

“We are out here to compete and see who is better,” said Airman 1st Class Andrew Dunkle, 20th AMXS load crew member. “The teams were tough, but we did our best.”

Speed was not the only skill tested in the competition.

“Ultimately, the most important thing is to safely and reliably put these munitions on the jet so they can go out there and do the mission,” said Dunkle.

These competitions can help Airmen prepare for the increased pace in a deployed environment.

“(Before you deploy,) these competitions get you used to working fast, working under stress and working for time,” said Airman 1st Class James Armeni, 20th AMXS load crew member. “If we have to get warheads on foreheads you have to be fast and accurate.”

The winner of this quarter’s competition is scheduled to be announced Oct. 20, 2017.
