The 20th Force Support Squadron hosted the ninth annual Boo Bash at the Shaw Lanes Bowling Center parking lot, Oct. 28.

The event provided a festive environment for Team Shaw families to celebrate Halloween and “trunk-or-treat” with the on-base community.

“The Boo Bash brings the community together in a safe environment,” said Deborah MacQueen, 20th FSS youth director. “In youth programs, everything we do is about the safety of the children. You know where the candy comes from. It’s an event where you can celebrate with trick-or-treating still but more in a fall festival way. It’s fun and the kids aren’t going door-to-door where you don’t know what to expect.”

The trick-or-treating tradition was carried on during the event via “trunk-or-treating,” where units around base decorated their vehicles and handed out candy, donated by the 20th FSS and the respective units, from a line of approximately 30 trunks.

Families could also participate in Halloween-themed games and a costume contest.

“We came last year and we had a lot of fun,” said Savannah Coker, Team Shaw spouse and attendee of this year’s Boo Bash. “It was an opportunity to have (my child) come out during the day and have her dress up and interact with some of the other families … I have some really great memories of Halloween from when I was a kid and I wanted to give Josephine the same experience.”

Around 4,000 individuals attended and more than 75 volunteered for the Boo Bash, one of the many 20th FSS annual events which aim to support families and raise morale. For information about upcoming 20th FSS events, visit www.20thfss.com.
