The 20th Security Forces Squadron logistics and supply flight at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, which consists of 15 Airmen, safeguards the well-being and equipment for all Airmen and on-base defenders.

“Our mission here is to provide readiness for 20th SFS and the base population in relation to firing weapons,” said Master Sgt. Jessica Busa, 20th SFS logistics noncommissioned officer in charge.

The unit is tasked with distributing items such as weapon slings, holsters and Kevlar vests for approximately 4,000 service members and civilians. All these items assist in the completion of their jobs at Shaw and while deployed.

Along with issuing equipment, the flight also reviews the defender’s deployment bag and proctors the deployer’s weapon firing qualifications.

“Without their proper gear, they will not be able to deploy and complete the mission,” said Staff Sgt. Justin Martinez, 20th SFS unit deployment manager. “It is our job to ensure they are ready to bring the fight downrange.”

Once the equipment is reviewed by the logistics flight, the Airmen are cleared to continue to their destination.

Along with preparing deployers, the 20th SFS logistics and supply flight takes care of budgeting, deployment operations, equipment issuing and vehicle fleet support for the squadron.

Protecting their wingmen and ensuring peace of mind for families, the logistics troops ensure the Airmen, on-base and deployed, are fully equipped to accomplish the mission when called upon.
