The 20th Communications Squadron Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems said farewell as they were transferred to the 20th Operations Support Squadron here, Sept. 30.

During the ceremony, 11 Airmen made the switch.

"Personnel individually fell-out from behind the 20th CS guideon," said Master Sgt. Daniel Collins 20th CS first sergeant. "They received a certificate from the 20th CS commander, reported to the 20th OSS commander, and fell-in behind the 20th OSS guidon. The ceremony was also meant to provide a visual representation of the communication squadron losing a section and the operation support squadron gaining a section," he said.

All ATCALS throughout the Air Force made this transfer with an Oct. 1 deadline.

"Communications squadrons are shifting focus to the relatively new area of cyberspace," said Collins. "ATCALS still has a vital mission to support air operations, rather than cyberspace operations. It only made sense to transfer them to the 20th OSS, which directly supports flying missions."

Although the Airmen are changing squadrons, they do not plan on stopping their work.

"ATCALS has always been a highly motivated group of Airmen," said Staff Sgt. Gerald Hampton, 20th Operations Support Squadron airfield systems supervisor. "I'm excited to be a part of the 20th OSS. We are all looking forward to continuing to provide the 20th OSS with all the support needed to land aircraft safely".

The ceremony ended with a picnic for the Airmen to say goodbye to the 20th CS and welcome the 20th OSS as their new home.
