Lawrence Timmons of the Pittsburgh Steelers visited here to show his appreciation to Airmen, March 28.

A native of Florence, S.C., Timmons was invited to meet with Airmen stationed at Shaw AFB. While signing autographs in the Carolina Skies and Conference Center, touring the base, and getting a chance to converse with several of his fans here, he also shined some light on how teamwork on the field is similar to what we as Airmen do on a daily basis.

This was Timmons' first time on an Air Force base.

"I get to see that service members are everyday people like me," he added. "I mean it's great to see that they enjoy doing what they do. They laugh and joke and I always thought it was serious; it's not. They have fun doing what they are doing."

While Timmons received the chance to meet and converse with Airmen, the Airmen also had the opportunity to ask him questions and get to know him outside of his fame.

"The visit was a success," said Staff Sgt. Jamyal Lett, 20th Fighter Wing Chapel NCO in charge of program management. "It was a great turn out. We had a nice size crowd come in for the meet and greet, and it went smoothly."

Timmons looks forward to coming back to Shaw AFB in the future and showing his appreciation of the military.

"Thank you to all the services making my home safe," said Timmons. "I have family members who are part of the service; I really love and admire what they do and that means a lot to me."
