Shaw basketball team travels to Langley for tournament Published Dec. 14, 2006 By Courtesy of 20th Services Squadron SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- The Shaw Lady Vipers basketball team traveled to Langley Air Force Base, Va., Dec. 8 to play in the Langley Christmas Tournament. They came out of the tournament with a 3-1 record and second place, losing in the championship game by six points. En route to the championship game they defeated the Navy All-Star Shooter, Langley Ladies and the USS Roosevelt ladies. The team was lead by Senior Airmen Tamara Bailey, 20th Aeromedical-Dental Squadron, and Charlotte Rocker, 20th Services Squadron. Both players averaged more than 15 points and more than 15 rebounds throughout the tournament. The ladies played great team ball this past weekend and the leadership from veteran players Bailey and Rocker was outstanding, said Coach Brian Combes. "From the team to all Shaw personnel, we would like to wish you Happy Holidays and we hope to see everyone come on Jan. 6 to support the men's varsity team and the Lady Vipers in the opening game of the 2007 schedule," Airman Bailey said. The first game of the varsity basketball tournament starts at 6 p.m. Jan. 5 at the fitness center. From then on, games are played until 4 p.m. Jan. 7.
