Shaw's Lakeside and Woodland swimming pools are now open seven days a week and offer open swim, water aerobics, lap swim, swimming lessons and pool parties.

Lakeside pool is located behind the Community Center and Woodland pool is located across the street from the Carolina Skies Club.

Open swim is available at both pools, Monday through Friday, from 1 to 6 p.m., said Joanne Brown, 20th Services Squadron lead lifeguard. Woodland's open swim is available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Lakeside's is from noon to 6 p.m. On Sundays open swim is available at both pools from noon until 6 p.m. It is $2.75 per person for everyone over three years of age. Any child under three is free.

"I love coming out here (during open swim)," said Mrs. Terri Booker. "My daughter, Danielle, absolutely adores the (water) slide. She never gets tired of it and she will go down it over and over again."

Water aerobics is available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 1 p.m. and from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Lakeside pool and is free of charge, Mrs. Brown said.

Lap swim is free and available at the Woodland pool on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from noon until 1 p.m. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, it is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Swimming lessons are offered at the Woodland pool for $50 per child, Mrs. Brown said. The lessons are taught by water safety instructors. Sign up begins June 19 for the June 26 - July 7 swimming lesson.

"It usually only takes three or four days before the class is full," Mrs. Brown said. "(But if you missed that class) other class dates are available. A class is available July 17 - 28 and sign up begins July 10. Also, the August 7 - 18 class sign up begins July 31.

The swimming lessons are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon and Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Pool parties are available at both pools on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 6 to 9 p.m.

"(The Lakeside and Woodland pools) are open until September -- usually around labor day," Mrs. Brown said.

With all the pools have to offer, many hours of hard work are needed and not only from lifeguards, she said.

"Tech. Sgt. Ken Meagher, 20th Civil Engineer Squadron, has been doing an outstanding job by inserting chlorine and cleaning the pools," Mrs. Brown said. "I want to thank him and all of the lifeguards for all of their hard work."
