Test measurement diagnostic equipment flight wins... 2005 Maintenance group Flight of the Year Published May 11, 2006 By Senior Airman John Gordinier 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- The 20th Component Maintenance Squadron’s Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment Flight was awarded the 2005 Maintenance Group Flight of the Year award for their outstanding work. There were many things that contributed to winning the award, such as an audit and volunteer activities. An audit is an Air Force level inspection that TMDE gets every two years. The inspection will check the operations and standards of the flight. The audit results showed that “we were the seventh lab out of 235 to have zero process nonconformities over a 5-year period,” said Master Sgt. Donald Tucker, 20th CMS TMDE laboratory chief. “(This means) there were no errors found on the operations of the flight, which is a very hard thing to accomplish.” “Another factor that helped us was individual volunteer activities,” said Tech. Sgt. Antony Angueira, 20th CMS TMDE supervisor. “Many people from our flight volunteer for things such as driving for Airman Against Drunk Driving. A lot of the technicians also attend school.” The TMDE laboratory is a little different than other offices and work shops on base. Their laboratory is in a room filled with technicians and valuable high-tech devices, which are used to calibrate all of Shaw’s maintenance equipment. “The TMDE flight is one operational unit working under a single roof for total efficiency,” said Senior Master Sgt. Todd Biggs, 20th CMS TMDE flight chief. “We have the responsibility to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the 20th Fighter Wing’s systems, subsystems and equipment,” Sgt. Biggs said. “It also ensures measurement traceability of the TMDE to the National Institute of Standards and Technology or other nationally recognized standards.” The responsibility and accomplishments of the TMDE flight are being seen by many. “I am extremely proud of our TMDE Airmen and civilians,” said Lt. Col. Mike Costello, 20th CMS commander. “As a team, they have demonstrated sustained superior performance while accomplishing an exacting mission. Their recent selection as the 2005 20th MXG Flight of the Year is richly deserved.”
