Scholarships for Military Children: Commissaries giving back to the community

Hannah Jenkins, daughter of Dan and Kim Jenkins and a Sumter native, is awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the Scholarships for Military Children program at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., July 20, 2015. Out of 5,000 applicants, Jenkins was one of two people from Shaw to be awarded the scholarship. Now in its 15th year, the program has shared $14,000,000 in scholarship grants with a total of 8,712 students. The program was created by the Defense Commissary Agency to provide educational opportunities and support in recognition of the challenges faced by military families.
