Warrior Day events set Published Nov. 9, 2016 By Airman 1st Class BrieAnna Stillman 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- The 20th fighter Wing is scheduled to host a Warrior Day event at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., Nov. 18. Warrior Day will consist of multiple events such as a Crud tournament, Firefighter Combat Challenge Run and a picnic. This is a day dedicated to regrouping after multiple exercises and building morale through fun and competitive events. The day will start with the Firefighter Combat Challenge 5K run for individuals or teams of five or more. It is scheduled to take place at the sports complex on base starting at 6 a.m. The sports complex will host continuous events such as tire flipping until 2 p.m. “I really think it is a great thing to end the week on such a good note and boost morale with events such as the firefighter challenge,” said Tech. Sgt. Patrick Bentley, 20th Civil Engineer Squadron assistant chief of readiness. There will also be a picnic held at the sports complex at 11:30 a.m., while the challenges and events are taking place, as well as an opportunity to hear from a guest speaker, retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Abraham J. Turner, former Executive Director for the Department of Employment and Workforce in South Carolina. To wrap up Warrior Day, an annual Crud tournament will take place at the Top Gun Lounge at 5 p.m. This is a fighter pilot tradition that officers participate in to build camaraderie and morale. Shaw holds multiple exercises of varying scale and focus throughout the year to be able to provide the finest combat ready forces when and where they are needed.
