Members of the 20th Force Support Squadron hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at Wateree Recreation Area near Camden, S.C., Nov. 4.

Curt Marshall, Wateree Recreation Area manager, said the ceremony celebrated the completion of two new cabins that will provide additional overnight opportunities and shorten the standby list the facility maintains when the other 14 cabins are rented.

The construction was originally scheduled to be completed during the 2018 fiscal year, but was completed sooner due to demand and facility usage, said Marshall.

Bobby J. Cartrett, 20th FSS community services flight chief, said Wateree Recreation Area has served at least 100,000 customers so far during 2016, whether for overnight stays or day visits.

“They get pretty booked,” said Cartrett about the facility’s cabins. “April to October, they’re booked every weekend.”

The individual units offer three bedrooms, one bathroom and can hold up to eight people for overnight occupancy. Each cabin also has a porch with a view of the lake.

Open houses are scheduled for Nov. 19 and 20 from 12-4 p.m., to give visitors the opportunity to view the new cabins and register to win a free two-night stay.
