The Team Shaw Chief’s Group hosted a speed networking event at the Carolina Skies Club and Conference Center at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, Dec. 1.

Approximately 40 senior NCOs and senior NCO selects attended the event, which was designed to help attendees professionally network during a series of timed sessions.

“It’s a structured, fast-paced event targeted at getting to personally meet one another and exchange what you do for the wing and how you may be able to help someone else, or help them help their Airmen,” said Chief Master Sgt. Steven Mullens, 20th Mission Support Group superintendent.

Topics of discussion included mentoring, improving personally and professionally, and finding a balance between work and home.

Mullens said all NCOs, especially chiefs, first sergeants, and those who are section chiefs, wing- or installation-level program leaders, or installation customer service function leaders can greatly benefit from this kind of event.

“It was a great opportunity for me to network and meet new people,” said Tech. Sgt. Tiffany Rankins, 20th Force Support Squadron Airman and Family Readiness Center readiness NCO in charge.

She said it also gave her a lot of information about what other Airmen do and how they affect the base.

“At the end of the day, the event’s overall goal is increasing synergy,” said Mullens. “You might make some new friends, find some great resources on the installation, and, if nothing else, learn some things that we do in the wing that you may have had no idea were going on behind the scenes.”

Mullens said the Team Shaw Chief's Group plans to host the event quarterly, and hopes similar events become available for Airmen of all ranks.
