Col. Daniel Lasica, 20th Fighter Wing commander, hosted the last commander’s calls for 2016 on Dec. 9.

Addressing Team Shaw’s many accomplishments during 2016, Lasica thanked Team Shaw as well as set his 2017 vision for the wing.

Following Lasica’s first commander’s call on Sept. 1, he and senior leaders met with Airmen to hear their feedback, concerns and highlights about being a member of Team Shaw and developed a wing strategy and short-, medium-, and long-term priorities.

The three long-term enduring priorities are mission, Airmen, and family.

These priorities are intended to be a good, simple and powerful framework that everyone can rally around and understand said Lasica.

Concentrating the daily mission of the 20th FW on the enduring priority framework commands that the wing steadily prepares, employs and sustains readiness to win the current fight and remains ready to win the next fight.

Focusing on Airmen, the priority encompasses deliberately developing highly skilled, disciplined professional Airmen. Airmen are encouraged to leave your unit, our wing, our Air Force, and yourself better than when you arrived said Lasica.

The third enduring priority of family calls for deliberately caring for and supporting those who sacrifice to support service members.

Some medium-term priorities include focusing on customer service, building next generation training capabilities for pilots, and assisting the 20th Medical Group’s move to the new facility.

Short-term priorities consist of making sure our fighter squadrons are deployment-ready, concentrating on operational readiness for exercises and real world demands, and ensuring Team Shaw members have the maximum amount of leave or down time possible with current operational demands.

The new 20th FW logo was unveiled during the commander’s calls, depicting a weasel riding two high-speed anti-radiation missiles, carrying a lightning bolt with the tail flashes of the 55th, 77th, and 79th Fighter Squadrons respectively. The lightning bolt symbolizes electronic warfare, the weasel represents the Wild Weasel mission, and the HARMs are what Team Shaw uses to challenge enemies.

The weasel logo will be used in conjunction with the current wing shield which dates back to 1934 and represents the values and heritage of Team Shaw, highlighting the wing’s motto, “Victory by Valor.”

"I think the changes that will take places in 2017 will affect Team Shaw in a positive way and I am excited to bring back Victory by Valor," said Airman 1st Class Rebecca Crockett, 20th Operational Support Squadron aviation resource management.

Leaders across the 20th FW will implement these strategies and priorities to improve the base and quality of life for Team Shaw members and to ensure Shaw is combat ready to fly, fight and win anytime, anywhere.
