Press Release 15-2017: Memorial service for Staff Sergeant Terrell scheduled Published April 4, 2017 20th Figter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- A memorial service for Staff Sgt. Austin Terrell of the 20th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron (AMXS) is scheduled for April 7 at 2:00 p.m.Terrell was killed in a vehicle accident March 25 at approximately 11:45 p.m. while traveling west bound on U.S. Route 378 near Sumter, South Carolina.The 24-year-old Airman was an armament technician who served in the Air Force since July 23, 2013. Terrell was posthumously promoted to the rank of staff sergeant.Terrell enjoyed noteworthy moments in his career, including escorting 385 contractors in Southeast Asia which safeguarded a $130 million munitions storage area and enabled 1,700 combat sorties and 4,100 strikes. Terrell showcased expertise when he identified and repaired six Surface-to-Air Missile Systems returning the assets to service and providing necessary support to Operation Noble Eagle and bolstering aerial defense.
