The 20th Force Support Squadron Spratt Education Center is scheduled to host the annual Spring Education Fair at 10 a.m., April 26.

During the fair, 15 different school liaisons will be available to speak to Airmen, Soldiers, and their families about pursuing higher education.

“Prospective students will learn about degrees that different colleges are offering, certificates, funding and the representatives may also speak to them about different careers in those degree paths,” said Carmen Alexander, 20th FSS education services specialist.

Alexander said speaking face-to-face with liaisons is invaluable and helps individuals make informed decisions concerning money and their career by getting questions answered and having the option to shop around for a school.

During their active-duty service, Airmen and Soldiers have the opportunity to use tuition assistance to receive money for college courses, helping to advance their respective service and educational journeys while broadening their horizon for possible future careers.

“I believe education is very important because one day you’re going to take off that uniform,” said Latoshia Gardner, 20th FSS education services specialist.

Gardner, who served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air National Guard, said using her tuition assistance made her competitive in the job market once she left the service. Having combined military experience and education allowed her and other service members to find jobs that may take their civilian counterparts years longer to get.

The Spratt Education Center staff provide information and counseling to prospective learners. Education counselors are available via walk-ins and appointments to help guide students through the college process and funding options.

The next education fair is scheduled for fall 2017, and will feature a different selection of schools.
