This week’s #FlashbackFriday focuses on honoring the lives of the nation’s veterans.

U.S. military members, veterans and civilians gathered to place wreaths along the fence of Sumter Cemetery at Sumter, South Carolina, Dec. 17, 2016, as part of a Wreaths Across America program. The program promotes laying wreaths on veterans’ graves to remember and honor military members who have passed away.

Last year, sponsors from the local community donated more than 100 wreaths to line the fence of the cemetery.

This year’s Wreaths Across America event is scheduled to take place at noon in the Sumter Cemetery, Dec. 16, with at least 50 donated wreaths.

Individuals looking to volunteer can represent Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., during the ceremony by volunteering in service dress and standing in formation during the event. Individuals interested in volunteering can contact Staff Sgt. Brandon Gaskins, Wreaths Across America event point of contact, at 803-895-1025.
