SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- This week’s #FlashbackFriday is a reminder to celebrate the annual Biomedical Sciences Corps Appreciation Week.

A medical lab technician assigned to the 20th Medical Support Squadron examines a tissue culture taken from a patient to identify the bacteria responsible for the patient’s illness at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., Jan. 21, 2016.

The Air Force has reserved the last full week of January to recognize the achievements and contributions of the men and women who comprise the BSC.

The BSC encompasses 18 specialties not covered by primary care providers including physical therapy, optometry, podiatry, speech pathology, pharmacy and public health.

This year, Biomedical Sciences Corps Appreciation Week is Jan. 22-26, and the 20th Fighter Wing thanks the medical staff who work alongside primary care providers to ensure armed forces personnel remain in the best health possible.
