Screens illuminate, pupils sharpen, and fingers start to race on keyboards as 20th Communications Squadron Airmen work to solve any problem thrown their way.

“Any computer problems you have, we can fix,” said Airman 1st Class Eleanor Anderson, 20th CS client systems technician. “It can be monitors, printers, scanners or your actual computer.”

Since mid to late November, the 20th CS has been updating Shaw’s computers to Windows 10. They have completed approximately 3,000 computers and have about 500 to go.

Windows 10 is being implemented to protect Department of Defense, issued computers more than Windows 7 did, and be more user friendly. The 20th CS uploads Windows 10 over the network server which erases Windows 7 and loads the new programs that come with it.
Not only does the 20th CS continue to update the base’s computers, but they must continue daily operations as well, such as fixing work phones for commanders, superintendents and first sergeants.

“I focus mainly on the work phones because there are so many on base and commanders, being as busy as they are, need their work phones back ASAP,” said Airman 1st Class Velenzia Varner, 20th CS client systems technician.

Airmen from the 20th CS continue to solve as many trouble tickets as possible to keep the mission moving and customers happy.
