The 20th Force Support Squadron Child Development Center’s afterschool programs received notification of accreditation June 5, 2018.

The Council on Accreditation provides an objective, independent and reliable validation of the CDC’s performance that involves detailed review to ensure services are well-coordinated, culturally competent, evidence-based, outcomes-oriented and provided by a skilled and supported workforce.

“Pursuing accreditation through the COA demonstrates our commitment to Shaw families that we offer the best programs, services, management and administration,” said Deborah MacQueen, 20th FSS director of youth programs. “It is important that our School Age Program is accredited because Shaw Air Force Base emulates excellence and we implement high performance standards by delivering the highest quality services to all of our children, youth and families.”

Becoming an accredited program can be a tedious process that takes up to a year to complete. The CDC worked with fellow Team Shaw members, such as parents and 20th FSS leadership, to complete the accreditation process.

“What I want Team Shaw to understand is that our staff is providing exceptional care and that is proven through the accreditation,” said Maj. Darryl J. Hebert Jr., 20th FSS commander. “This is just another step in taking care of and providing the best for our Airmen and their families.”

Many Team Shaw members take great pride in the accreditation.

“Our accreditation demonstrates accountability in the management of resources, sets standardized best practice thresholds for service and administrations, and increases organizational capacity by creating a framework for ongoing quality improvement,” said Macqueen. “We are honored to be expedited with 100 percent compliance.”
