Team Shaw welcomed Jon and Doug Heder to the base for the 20th Fighter Wing Annual Awards party, Feb. 8.

During Jon’s time at Shaw he was able to fly in an F-16DM Fighting Falcon with the help of the Air Combat Command Viper Demo Team, and 20th Fighter Wing Airmen, then later speak and interact with the 20th FW members at the awards ceremony.

“It’s good to have civic leaders or people outside the military come to us so we can showcase what we do to a different audience that may not follow us, or follow the military, “said Tech. Sgt Ryan Hutchinson, ACC VDT noncommissioned officer in charge.

The Heders added a playful and joyful vibe to Airmen who helped make their flight possible, as they interacted with the VDT and 20th FW pilots.

“Jon Heder is a really stand-up guy, really down to earth and it was cool to interact with a celebrity,” said Hutchinson.

“Even though he and his brother may have gotten sick on the fast jets, I definitely think they had a blast.”

In order to get a flight, one needs to go through training to learn how to breathe properly and unbuckle the harness in case of an emergency.

The Heders are just a few civilians who will visit Shaw to learn more about the mission this year.

“He’s not the first, and he’s not the last celebrity we’ll have out here to see what we do,” said Hutchinson.
