SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Airmen and civilians gathered within the somber walls of the Palmetto Chapel to celebrate the life of a fallen wingman at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, June 5.
The 20th Component Maintenance Squadron held the memorial service for Senior Airman Aaron J. Hall, 20th CMS electronic warfare systems journeyman, to reflect on his 30 years on earth and faithful service to our nation.
Hall passed away June 1 due to health complications, surrounded by family and loved ones.
He was described as a selfless mentor, leader and wingman to his peers and subordinates, whose positive attitude was felt wherever he went.
“I met Airman Hall a little over a year ago,” said Senior Airman Lorenzo Finch, 20th CMS EWS journeyman. “Throughout this year he grew to become much more than a coworker to me, he became a friend, mentor and a big brother to me.
“Hall was extremely caring and wanted the best for you, not because it would benefit him, but because he genuinely cared,” Finch continued. “To me, that is a value taught at a young age by your family and I have no doubt that his family is full of good people, based purely on the way Hall reflected himself.”
Along with taking care of those around him, Hall worked tirelessly in his role as an EWS journeyman.
“Aaron Hall was the epitome of what an airman should be,” said Staff Sgt. Janus Diez, a former coworker. “He was the person who I always relied and could count on to get things done without being asked. I admired his character and fortitude of following the rules even down to the basics of not putting your hands in your pockets.”
During the memorial, Hall was posthumously awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal for his meritorious service while at Shaw.
“Since our beloved Aaron has passed, the outpouring of love and support we have received from his friends and colleagues in the form of prayers, kind words and short stories, revealed to us more than anything, that Aaron was a person who developed meaningful relationships,” said Peter Hall Jr., Hall’s brother. “As a result, he was valued not only as a Senior Airman, but as a confidant.”
Hall is survived by his father Peter Hall Sr., mother Jennifer Hall and his brother Peter Hall Jr.
“For my family and I, today is not a day for damp sadness or deep sorrow, but of tender joy” said Hall Jr. “We are a very strong family and together we are going to move forward by rejoicing for the 30 years God has loaned Aaron to us.”
