WOW: Mrs. Horner

We sat down with Sheila Horner, 20th Medical Group secretary, to get to know her. Horner is best known for bringing people together. Outside of work, Horner is a marching band mom, motocross mom, an Airman and Family Readiness Center volunteer and is working on her degree in social work.

 

Where are you from?

 Pittsfield, Pennsylvania.

 

Why did you decide to join the Air Force as a civilian?

 My husband of just over 18 years brought me to the military life. We’ve been at Shaw Air Force Base for a year and a half.

 

What is your favorite part of South Carolina?

 I love the trees and the scenery.

 

How would you describe a normal day?

There’s a lot. There’s answering phones, greeting visitors and doing all the admin tasks for the front office.

 

What is your favorite sport? Team?

I enjoy paddle boarding and I enjoy watching high school football.

 

How would you describe your leadership style?

 I lead from beside. I support everyone around me to accomplish their goals.

 

What is one Air Force resource you found that is incredibly beneficial?

 I am a prior family advocacy member and I have found that the family advocacy program is a very beneficial resource, because of all of their prevention programs.

 

What’s your outlook mailbox look like?

A hot mess with lots of subfolders.

 

What is one thing you wish people knew about your job.

There’s more to my job than just answering the phone.

 

What is your favorite part of the job?

The people, without a doubt.
