Shaw to receive new medical clinic Published June 25, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Daniel Blackwell 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $38.7 million contract June 14, to Walsh Federal LLC, Chicago, Ill., for construction of a replacement medical clinic at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C, Dec. 2016. "It's an exciting time for everyone involved," said Lt. Cmdr. Ancelmo 'Mac' McCarthy, NAVFAC Southeast resident officer in charge of construction for Shaw AFB. The project will consist of a medical clinic featuring stepped up three-level configuration with two, two-story structures connected with three-story circulation corridors around an interior courtyard, an ambulance shelter and a telecommunication enclosure. When complete, the new facility will consolidate all ambulatory and medical services under one roof providing convenience and ease of service to all Airman and their families utilizing medical services at Shaw. This new addition will equip Shaw's medical personnel with the tools to better serve Airmen and their families; increasing the overall capacity of the facility, and thus the number of patients that can be helped as well as decreasing wait times for Airmen and their families. "We now need to capitalize on the momentum of awarding the contract as we move into the construction phase of the project. It was a great team effort by all the stakeholders to get this project award across the finish line," said McCarthy.
