The 20th Force Support Squadron hosted the Shaw Freedom Bash for military appreciation here at Woodland Pool, July 3.

Approximately 300 Team Shaw members showed up to the bash despite the inclement weather to kick off the holiday weekend.

During the event, it rained and it poured but, despite the weather, the event still went on as planned.

The rain didn't stop members from participating in balloon animals, food, entertainment and several bouncy houses for the
children.

"Our motto, 'People First, Mission Always,' said Gen. Mike Hostage, commander of Air Combat Command.

Even though work is required to keep the mission going, Shaw also tries to hold several morale boosting events.

"I had a good time at the Freedom bash," said Senior Airman Michael Blackmon, 20th Civil Engineer Squadron emergency management journeyman. "It is always good to see Airmen and their families enjoying some time off rain or shine. It was really good turnout despite the weather all the people I talked to in passing were having a good time and hopefully the base has more of these kinds of events in the future. Senior Airmen Jones and I were out there raising money for the Rising 4 by selling soda. It is always a good day to be able to sit back and eat funnel cakes and celebrate the 4th of July."

"Shaw's Freedom Bash was a great way to bring Airman, Soldiers, family members, and supporters of Shaw AFB together," said Senior Airman Josephine Wan, Air Forces Central A4. "Many people showed up to have a good time with food and entertainment. I enjoyed the music, food, and I especially enjoyed the snow cones."
