The 2013 "America's Kids Run" was held at Shaw, May 17.

The run took place at the youth sports complex on the running trail and was directed by Larry Stegall, 20th Fighter Wing youth sports director, and Wally Frohling, 20th FW assistant youth sports director.

Participants in the run were required to run set distances based on their age. The 5 and 6-year-olds ran half a mile, the 7 and 8-year-olds ran one mile, and the 9 to 12-year-olds ran two miles.

Every child received an America's Kids Run t-shirt as a reward for crossing the finish line, while the top five in each age group earned ribbons. Parents were encouraged to run with their children, and many did. Shaw had 139 children participate in the race as well as 36 adults.
