Shaw sweeps SC AFA awards Published April 8, 2013 By Bush Hanson Air Force Association SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- The South Carolina Air Force Association annually recognizes the top Air Force members in the following categories: outstanding aviator, outstanding mission support person, outstanding aircraft technician, outstanding logistics person, and outstanding unit. The competition is between the Air National Guard at Joint National Guard Base McEntire, both the active-duty and reserve wings at Joint Base Charleston, and the 20th Fighter Wing, U.S. Air Forces Central, and 9th Air Force at Shaw AFB. This year's winners are all from Shaw AFB, an accomplishment not often seen. The winners are as follows: Outstanding Aviator - Capt. Matthew A. Austin, 77th Fighter Squadron, Shaw AFB Outstanding Aircraft Technician - Master Sgt. John H. Cantwell, AFCENT, Shaw AFB Outstanding Logistics - Capt. Dawn A Baker, AFCENT, Shaw AFB Outstanding Mission Support - Staff Sgt. Joshua J. Barker, 20th Security Forces Squadron, Shaw AFB Outstanding Unit - 77th FS, Shaw AFB The winners will be recognized at the South Carolina Air Force Association annual awards luncheon April 13 in Anderson, S.C. Also, the outstanding Air Force person will be selected from the above winners. The winner of this category will be announced at the awards luncheon. The local Air Force Association chapter, the Swamp Fox Chapter, will also be recognized as the most outstanding chapter in the state.
