A Shaw chaplain reservist is looking for participants to start a Shaw community choir to showcase their talents on base.

Chaplain (Capt.) Michelle Law-Gordon is searching for anyone who is a military ID card holder, ranging from vocalists to instrumentalists, who would be interested in participating in a choir program dedicated to Christian and contemporary music.

"I have seen kids who have had a rough time staying out of trouble and finding something that motivates them to move forward in a positive direction," said Law-Gordon. " With these kids, Christian music has gave them a new aspect on life and  helped them make a turn around. I feel the same idea could be used for military members and their family members."

Although Law-Gordon is just starting the group, she hopes the size of the choir will continue to grow and wants to remind everyone that new members are always welcome.

"The purpose of starting this choir is to give the younger crowd a chance to be a part of music that they can find a connection with," said Law-Gordon. "We realize there are people in the Shaw community who have gifts. We want to try to encourage them to be a part of a group where they can experience a better feeling, despite being away from home or if they are just having a rough experience in life."

"I'm excited because it's something that's refreshing to me, and makes me feel like I'm at home," said Elizabeth Washington, 20th Force Support Squadron marketing clerk.

If you are interested in joining the choir, contact Chaplain Law-Gordon at 803-895-1106.
