The 2013 Air Force Assistance Fund campaign kicked off Feb. 28, with an introduction breakfast for unit project officers and key workers at the Carolina Skies Club and Conference Center.

The AFAF will officially begin March 4 and run through April 12.

Four major charities receive contributions from the AFAF: the Air Force Aid Society (Air Force charity society) Air Force Villages (military retirement community), Air Force Enlisted Villages (charity for enlisted spouses) and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation (a charity for widows of Air Force retirees).

These charitable affiliates all support the AF family and rely largely on volunteer contributions.

Shaw Airmen attended the breakfast and watched a presentation about what the AFA can offer.

"Shaw Air Force Base's goal is to contribute $110,943," said Capt Rodrigo Caruço, assistant staff judge advocate. "But, we can easily reach $221,886 if each member of Team Shaw donates."

Unit project officers and key workers will be contacting each member of Team Shaw over the next few weeks, but members are encouraged to contact these volunteers to contribute. Posters will be hung in each occupied building containing the appropriate contact information.
