The Sumter County Veterans Association hosted a Veterans Day ceremony on the front lawn of the Sumter County Court House, Nov. 12.

The Sumter County Veterans Association teamed with City of Sumter officials, Team Shaw active-duty volunteers, and Air Force Junior ROTC commanders and cadet volunteers to recognize our veterans' service to our nation.

About two hundred people gathered for the ceremony to honor the brave men and women who served and are serving in the armed forces.

"To all our veterans we have a simple message. Thank you. All of you, for your dedicated service," said Maj. Gen. Lawrence Wells, 9th Air Force commander, during his speech at the event.

Wells went on to say, "Our veterans from every era are the finest of citizens. We owe them the life we know today."
