For the past couple months, Airmen from the 20th Logistics Readiness Squadron and 20th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron have been hard at work preparing for a biennial logistics compliance assessment program inspection that will occur from May 7 through 11.

During the inspection, more than 30 inspectors will be going through various areas on the installation to review more than 1,629 checklists and grade about 200 individual task performances.

Bases are required undergo this evaluation every two years to see how well they comply with tasking orders, said Patrick Vance, 20th LRS quality assurance manager. The bottom line of the inspection is to ensure Shaw's logistics professionals do their job, efficiently, safely and properly.

"Indirectly, this will affect the entire base," said Maj. Jason Garrison, 20th LRS commander. "Inspectors can go to any squadron that has a connection to LRS, such as government vehicles or unit deployment managers."

Those supporting units won't receive a grade on the LCAP, he pointed out. But the inspectors will be checking to make sure LRS's paperwork and administrative programs are compliant.

The team started preparing for this inspection only a couple months ago, but compliance is what the 20th LRS does every day, Garrison said.

The inspection will also asses how the 20th Fighter Wing is meeting the Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness plan as mandated to the Department of Defense, Garrison said.

The DoD needs to continue to improve the Department's financial processes, controls and information to assist in accomplishing its mission, said Robert F. Hale, Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller). The FIAR plan outlines various ways to achieve these objectives. A cornerstone of the FIAR Plan is improving information efforts in DoD management. This strategy will focus on budgetary information and information on mission critical assets.

"In logistics, compliance is our core," Garrison said. "That's why we have a quality assurance office. It is our highest priority all the way to the top."

This inspection will be a snap shot in time of what the 20th LRS does every day, Garrison added.

"People are working hard with the 55th's return and the air show on top of this," he exclaimed." I'm proud of them and excited to show off for the LCAP."
