Team Shaw to showcase talents Published March 28, 2012 By Airman Daniel B. Blackwell 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Preliminary auditions for Shaw's Got Talent contest are scheduled for April 4, at the Carolina Skies Club. All base residents above the age of 12 are encouraged to come out and showcase their talents, no matter how obscure or unique they might be. "We're hoping for a great turn out similar to Shaw Idol," said 2nd Lt. Alexandria Neptune, 20th Force Support Squadron contest organizer. Neptune orchestrated this event by coordinating with Carolinas Skies and other private organizations from the Rising 4, Top 3 and Shaw 5/6 to the Company Grade Officer's Council. These organizations generously donated funds toward the project to help make it a reality. "We absolutely need people to participate," explained Airman 1st Class Ashlee Ledet, 20th Communications Squadron airfield systems technician and contestant coordinator for the event. "We'd like to get the Army involved as well." All performers must be registered no later than 4 p.m., April 1. A PA system and CD player will be provided for contestants who request them. Any other required equipment or props are the responsibility of the contestant. All talents are welcome as long as they're not offensive in nature, and dress and appearance must be appropriate. During the preliminary audition, acts should be 60 to 90 seconds in duration to ensure all contestants are given an opportunity to perform. Once all contestants have performed, a panel of judges will decide who will proceed to the following rounds by giving 20 contestants golden tickets. During the subsequent rounds on April 11, 18, 25 and May 3, contestants will have 5 to 6 minutes to perform. After this initial audition the audience will decide through popular vote which contestants will proceed to the last round. The audience will vote by placing a poker chip in a jar for the performer they choose. Each jar will have the name and photo of the performer and will be guarded by security to ensure accurate voting. All votes will be tallied by the ranking judge and verified by a second judge. Those interested in participating should contact Ledet via email at Ashlee.ledet@shaw.af.mil.
