Col. Clay Hall assumed command of the 20th Fighter Wing at Hanger 1200 March 19 from Col. Charlie Moore. Approximately 300 Airmen, Soldiers, and civilians were in attendance for this momentous occasion, as well as Joseph T. McElveen, Jr., mayor of Sumter S.C., and other prominent figures within the surrounding community.

Maj. Gen. Lawrence Wells, 9th Air Force commander, presided over the change of command ceremony between Moore and Hall.

During the ceremony, Moore and Hall both spoke about the accomplishments of Shaw Air Force base as a whole and the surrounding community. Each spoke proudly of the accomplishments of Team Shaw, the satisfaction with progress of current housing and other expansion efforts on base and gratitude for the unwavering support of the local community.

Hall explained he's looking forward to meeting as many individuals of Team Shaw as possible and has made ensuring the health and welfare of the Airmen and Soldiers in his charge his number one priority.

Prior to assuming control over the 20th FW, Hall was the commander of the 455th Expeditionary Operations Group, Bagram AB, Afghanistan. He possesses a highly decorated leadership and command background ranging from, Division Chief and Deputy Director positions at the Headquarters United States Pacific Command at Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii to commander of the 555th Fighting Squadron at Aviano Air Base, Italy.

"Anytime you have a chance to command it's a privilege and an honor," Hall said. "But getting this opportunity to lead the 20th FW at Shaw is more than an honor."

Moore will pin on the rank of brigadier general Mar. 26 and move on to become the new commander of the 57th Wing at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.
