A new Exchange shopping center is scheduled to open Nov. 17 at 9 a.m. here.

Replacing one of the oldest Exchange stores in the Air Force, Shaw AFB and Army and Air Force Exchange Service leaders will cut the ribbon on a brand new facility Thursday.

"The new Exchange hones in on the product and service needs for our families, Airmen and Soldiers on Shaw AFB," said Col. Robert Snodgrass 20th Mission Support Group vice commander. "All the products and services are set-up as one stop, catering to the needs of our busy personnel."

The new Exchange store has specialized extra items for our installation to include furniture that can be used in the dormitories, a robust electronics selection, hunting gear, and a state-of-the-art food court, he said.

A new gas station is also included on the new site and a satellite pharmacy for personnel to pickup medication renewals. A services and concessionaires mall will include a barber shop, beauty shop, optical shop, rental cars and more.

The increased amount of services and merchandise added to the facility also created more jobs on the installation.

This facility has been built to the latest U.S. Green Building Council LEED Silver certifiable standards for energy and environmental conservation. The design integrated efficient T-8 fluorescent lighting, low flow water fixtures, polished concrete floors, skylights, Energy Star food equipment and high efficiency heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment.
